Haydn: Nelson Mass
Vaughan Williams: Lord, Thou Hast Been Our Refuge

Plus orchestral items and vocal solos

In the season of Remembrance and with the centenary of the ending of the First World War,  the choir, orchestra and soloists join forces once again to produce some spectacular music.

Lord, Thou Hast Been Our Refuge was written in 1921 as the world was recovering from the deadliest war ever known.  Based on Psalm 90, the work is for choir, organ, solo-quartet and trumpet and includes the hymn tune of 'O God, Our Help in Ages Past'.  The finale is described as one of the most inspired endings in English choral music.

Haydn's famous Nelson Mass, arguably his greatest single composition, was written at the height of the Napoleonic Wars, with the original title of 'Mass in Troubled Times'.  Accompanying the choir, and four soloists, you will hear the string orchestra, three trumpets and timpani delivering Haydn's lively but profound music.

As usual, it's a free concert, with a collection for local charities at the end.  We expect the church to be full, so please come in good time!
